Wales: Bend it Like Beckham

The England Women’s manager has called on women and girls across the country to get involved in the One Game, One Community Week of Action during Black History Month.

The Week of Action, which is one of the most prominent anti-racism and community engagement initiatives in the country, takes places between the 18 – 30 October 2007.

The week, organised by Kick It Out - football’s anti- racism and inclusion campaign, has a strong community focus and celebrates the contribution made to football by black, Asian and other ethnic minorities, whilst continuing the call to challenge racism.

Women and Girls
England Women’s Manager, Hope Powell, who is currently in China preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Finals, welcomed the Week of Action:

“The Week of Action is a great way of highlighting the good work going on in the game to encourage greater inclusion, while continuing the call to challenge all forms of discrimination in football.
“I hope that groups across the country seize the opportunity to get involved in the week, particularly the women and girls teams out there.”

Get involved!
Piara Powar, director of Kick It Out, football’s anti- racism and inclusion campaign, added:

“More and more women’s and girls teams and organisations are getting involved in the Week of Action each year, but we would still like to reach out to more groups.

“Women play a huge role in the game be it as players, fans, coaches or administrators and we are keen to ensure that the Week of Action celebrates the contribution women and girls are making to football.”
