Message of support from Cllr George Meehan, Leader of Haringey Council
“In consultation with the Black Community in Haringey, the programme for this year’s Black History Month includes many events to commemorate the bicentenary of the British Parliamentary Act to abolish the transatlantic slave trade.

It is clear that issues relating to slavery are thoughtfully acknowledged in this programme. As much work still needs to be done to heal the wounds of the past, I am both proud and delighted we are offering this platform for expression.

As Leader of Haringey Council, I celebrate the achievements of our communities. There is no greater reward in public service.

I wish Black History Month in Haringey 2008 every success.”
