Letters Of A Love Betrayed
ROH2 and Music Theatre Wales present a new opera by Eleanor Alberga, a story of passion and deceit, set in the Andes. In the foothills of the Andes an orphaned child is abandoned to a lonely, convent upbringing. She emerges a vibrant, young woman – spirited, defiant and hungry for life, determined to return to the land of her birth where she believes she will find the love she yearns for. Her dreams are dashed away by a brutal betrayal…until the day her son unwittingly presents her with the key that will unlock her heart and give her the courage to hope once again. Set against the hard, sun-dried landscape of South America, Letters of a Love Betrayed, is a captivating new opera that unashamedly touches the heartstrings.Jamaican-born composer, Eleanor Alberga's vivid, exotic rhythms and rich orchestral pallet brilliantly evoke the boldly drawn characters. Together, drama and music leave no human emotion untouched: there is lust and greed, passion and pain, but also humour and kindness – and throughout it all runs the simple longing of the human heart for love.
